The Lodge is a charming and unique 2500 square foot home with wood beams and vaulted ceilings known affectionately by the neighbors as the “Castle”. It was built as an estate home in 1930’s by Chicago artist and teacher, Al Langan. The House has been described as Victorian Gothic. Much of the wood used to build the house was cut and milled on the property. The house has interesting hexagonal shaped rooms that look out onto the lake and the woods, hardwood floors, 4 fireplaces. The original structure was U-shaped. I added a Florida room facing the lake and created a small courtyard of the open part of the U. In the Summer of 2002 the house was completely renovated and and the wood floors refinished while trying to preserve the unusual character of the house. You have good views of the lake from the Florida Room and Decks. The kitchen is large enough to eat in and accommodate multiple cooks (with the right personalities). The evenings are very pleasant. The house has central heating but not air conditioning. The inside temperature is a comfortable even when it is hot outside; the evenings are often cool.
