Walking path around Crystal lake

When my kids were little they enjoyed wading and run in and out of the water. The lake was my son’s first exposure to fishing and he has learned to enjoy the sport. Although my children swam in Glovers Lake, they often preferred that I drive them about 20 min to Crystal Lake, because it has a great beach with plenty of other children and was close to the Beulah drug store that sells ice-cream cones. Most evenings, we would drive 10 minutes or so to Arcadia where they would run up and down a beautiful sandy beach but not swim to watch the sunset over Lake Michigan which was often too cold for us to swim. We would return to start a campfires down by the beach and tell stories while we roasted hot dogs, s’mores, or cooked the fish my son caught. There are so many interesting places to see and things to do that are very close by. There is an Art-and-Nature trail about 8 miles from the house at the Crystal Mountain Resort in Thompsonville; a beautiful hiking trail along the Manistee starting at Red Bridge; and the pleasures of rafting in six or seven inches of white water on called the Pine River.
